About Strux Garage

Not in a boardroom — in garages, on job sites, and in a powder coating shop.
That’s where this started.

In 2018, Paul Unger began researching the capabilities of powder coating MDF. While the technology had existed for years, advancements in curing and powder formulations were making it increasingly viable for durable, high-performance applications. Paul knew the finish offered major advantages over traditional coatings — greater durability, improved moisture resistance, and a more consistent, fully bonded finish.

Convinced the technology had great potential, he purchased a powder coating operation, formed Unger Powder Coatings, and set out to master the process.

It wasn’t easy.

Industry partners and powder suppliers shared what they knew, but producing a fully bonded, durable finish on MDF required relentless trial and error — refining temperatures, powder blends, moisture content, curing methods, and production speeds until the process consistently worked across sharp edges, varying thicknesses, and different colors.

Finding the Right Application

Paul worked with manufacturers producing components for other durable goods as he searched for the best application. That led him to garage cabinets.

Garages are one of the toughest environments in the home — temperature swings, humidity, constant use, and heavy storage needs. Most cabinets weren’t designed for that environment. Paul’s were.

In 2020, Kristen Unger joined the company to oversee quality control as cabinet production and installations began to grow.

From Product Development to the Garage

By 2022, Webfoot Home Improvements in Bend had been installing concrete coatings for several years — most often in the garage. Founded by Travis Ulrich and Gavin Hepp, the company focused on delivering high-quality work and a Seriously Great customer experience.

But their customers wanted more.

Once the floor was complete, customers wanted the full garage system — storage, organization, and a finished space that matched the rest of the home. The Webfoot team searched for garage cabinets they could confidently offer their customers, but struggled to find a product that matched the level of durability, fit, and finish they expected.

Paul Unger approached Webfoot Home Improvements about becoming his first dealer. He wanted to partner with like-minded home service professionals for design, sales, and installation so he could focus on refining the product and growing his manufacturing operation.

Seeing the Difference Firsthand

When the Webfoot team first saw the cabinets installed, the difference was clear — custom sized, stronger, more durable, and better looking than anything they had seen.

They installed them for a handful of trusted customers to test them in real garages. The response was immediate:

“Oh my gosh — I had no idea. Why didn’t you tell me these were so awesome?”

That became the overwhelming sentiment across those early installations. The team knew they had found a product they were genuinely excited to offer — and proud to stand behind.

A Partnership Built For Better Garages

Webfoot partnered with Paul, bringing the cabinets to its customers while working closely together to refine the systems for design, ordering, and installation.

Soon, other contractors — peers in the industry — started reaching out. Their customers wanted the same thing. They were facing the same challenge Webfoot had faced and looking for a garage cabinet product they could confidently stand behind.

After years of partnership, the team formed Strux Garage Cabinets to create a complete system — from design through manufacturing and installation — helping professional contractors bring a better garage cabinet system to their customers.

The goal was simple: help contractors bring better garage cabinets to their customers.

They brought in Simon Taylor to develop a custom platform connecting design, proposal, ordering, manufacturing, and installation into one seamless workflow. The result is a system designed to help contractors deliver a better garage experience from start to finish.
